Thailand, Part One

Happy Wednesday! Now that I've had a bit of time to recover from work, I wanted to spend a little time talking about something fantastic...

But let me back up for a minute...There's this foundation called Rustic Pathways that has set up a bunch of different travel programs for high school students.
Tonsa different countries all over the world, and something for everyone: adventurous wilderness excursions, language immersion, and what I want to do: service projects!

These little cuties are orphans who now live at the Rustic Pathways Hill Tribe Orphanage.
This sad situation is a result of internal conflict in Burma (Myanmar), where power struggles and civil unrest are everywhere, and quite violent.

Isn't this country beautiful?

^This is a picture of RP participants building an orphanage structure that will probably be used for teaching.  The goal of this program is to provide these kids with some basic life skills: a rudimentary education, simple English, social skills, etc, and also to give them clothing, a roof over their heads, warm food, and water.

Aren't they just too cute??
Sooo...What I want to do is go help them! Through this program, I will be able to help these little chilluns gain some fundamental life skills and basic necessities that we tend to take for granted.  I will also have the opportunity to visit the main Karen Refugee camp, close to the Burma-Thai border, and experience firsthand the kind of strife they endure.
This is the Orphanage:
This is just to give you some background on the program and why I want to go so badly!  I'll be posting more about how I'm fundraising for the trip soon :)

~From Lily With Love~

  1. The orphanage is beautiful and so is the country. I know you will get there Lily. You sound very determined. I also have a longing or desire to go on a mission trip to help children in neeed like this. I was thinking South America, but just because it is close. Good luck!

    1. Thanks for the confidence! I wish you the best of luck as well :)
